THE MUCKS SYSTEM

Before Roald Amundsen set out to conquer the South Pole in 1911, he chose to learn from the best possible sources and went to live with the Inuits to study their knowledge on cold weather survival. Amundsen learned to dog sled, hunt for seals, kayak, fish, and wear the clothes of the Inuit. This knowledge made Roald Amundsen succeed where others had failed.

In 2018, we launched the Mountain Mucks, with the unique layering system with a separate inner boot. This system makes the boots incredibly comfortable, reduced risk of blisters, increasing warmth and breathability. It makes drying much faster after a day out in the wet field when separated from the outer boot. For adventures and hikers, this can be a critical feature when choosing the right shoe, but there is more to be known about the Amundsen muck system than their technological features.

WALKING OUR BOOTS HOME: MONTEBELLUNA TO OSLO

To meet the challenge of developing shoes, we teamed up with the renowned Italian boot designer, Fabio Deon of Studio Deon, of Montebelluna. What we first thought would require less than a year, has now become a three year process of design and re-design. Before going into production we decided to put them to test; by picking up the final prototypes in Italy and walking them home to Oslo.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR MUCKS

1. Before use

Thoroughly clean your boots, remove laces and all dirt, and make sure that both the boots and grease are warmed to room temperature.

2. Rub grease into the leather with hands or soft cloth

Carefully grease where soles join uppers and all stitching. Allow grease to penetrate the leather then apply another coat.

Allow to soak for a few hours

Buff off any excess with a soft cloth or brush. Apply as needed to maintain waterproofing and conditioning of leather.
