Amundsen Field Trips

The Nordmarka Classic is a well-established paddling route among Oslo’s outdoor enthusiasts - starting in the north, along Mylla, and finishing south, by Maridalen. While, the route is usually undertaken with a canoe or pack-raft over 2-3 days - we tagged along with the Vold Brothers, Amund & Eivind, and their training partner, Daniel Salbu, as they looked to complete the route in just a single day. With racing kayaks in tow, the boys hit the water in Mylla – 7am sharp.

With an optimistic outlook, the boys thought 5-6 hours of hard paddling might be all it took to reach the Maridalen – after all, they were no strangers to pushing hard on the water. Daniel had kayaked the coastline of Norway from North to South last year fueled by a simple diet of Mackerel and Tomato Sauce. 5 hours later, after a few sheepish looks at the map, the boys realized that it would take a bit longer than anticipated... nothing a bit of Mackerel and Bixit couldn't fix.

Though the boys were no strangers to paddling hard – Daniel had kayaked the coastline of Norway from North to South last year – they found themselves several hours behind schedule as the dappled evening light descended... nothing a bit of Mackerel, Bixit, and an adventurous attitude couldn't handle.
